What a Bachata class looks like
We start with a warm-up to the music, then learn the basic step and its timing. From there we add one or two moves at a time, first on your own and then with a partner. Partners rotate, so you never need to bring one. We finish by dancing everything together to a full song.
Your first four weeks of Bachata
- Week 1: the basic step, timing and the "tap" that gives Bachata its rhythm.
- Week 2: connection: how leads and follows feel each other's movement.
- Week 3: turns and a short combination.
- Week 4: dancing it all to a full song, plus a little body movement and styling.
Why people love Bachata
Bachata music is romantic and easy to hear the beat in, so most beginners find their feet quickly. It's slower than Salsa, which gives you time to think about connection and musicality. It's one of the most popular dances at socials, so once you know the basics you'll dance all night.
Bachata or Salsa: which should I start with?
Bachata is slower and smoother; Salsa is faster and more playful. Our free class runs every Saturday, alternating Salsa and Bachata, so you can try both before you choose. Can't pick? The Value Pack gives you four classes of each.
